about the role

The Vice President, Corporate Controller will plan and direct the accounting operations of Phathom Pharmaceuticals. The Corporate Controller is responsible for producing financial reports, maintaining an adequate system of accounting records, and establishing and overseeing a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results and ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.


Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Establishing and implementing a system of controls over transactions to minimize risk.
  • Maintaining the company’s system of accounts and books and records on all company transactions and assets.
  • Producing financial reports and ensuring that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Filing quarterly and annual financial reports and assisting in the preparation of other filings associated with a publicly traded company.
  • Preparation and analysis of operating data and special reports.
  • Working with external auditors and providing needed information for the annual audit.
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Assisting in the preparation of an annual budget and review of forecasts against the budget.
  • Performing other related duties as necessary or assigned.

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting or Business Administration required; Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of related accounting experience required.
  • Certified Public Accountant license required.
  • Minimum 5 years of biopharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in senior accounting positions at a publicly traded company preferred.
  • Experience implementing financial systems preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization management skills.
  • Knowledge of Securities and Exchange Commission regulation and provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
  • Team player and entrepreneurial mindset.
